Ferrari Dino 246 GT
The Ferrari Dino 246 GT is one of the most famous and elegant creations to ever leave the Maranello workshops, although it was initially marketed under the “Dino” brand in homage to Enzo Ferrari’s late son. Produced in approximately 2,295 units for the GT (coupe) version, it represents a pivotal milestone for the Italian manufacturer, being the first mass-produced Ferrari to adopt a mid-rear engine architecture. With its voluptuous curves and perfect balance, it is considered today as one of the absolute masterpieces of automotive design, combining the purity of Italian style with an agility that was revolutionary for its time.

Under the hood, the Dino 246 GT houses a 2.4-liter V6 engine (hence the designation 246), developing 195 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque. This compact and spirited block, featuring a dry sump and four overhead camshafts, is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox featuring the famous metal “H” gate. This configuration allows the Italian beauty to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 7.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 235 km/h. Its tubular chassis and independent suspension offer ideal weight distribution, providing a driving experience that is lively, communicative, and of a surgical precision that surpasses many of its more powerful contemporaries.
Aesthetically, the 246 GT is a sculpture signed by Pininfarina. It is distinguished by its curvaceous fenders, plunging nose, side air intakes sculpted into the doors, and a concave rear window framed by arched pillars. It typically sits on the iconic 14-inch Cromodora light-alloy wheels.
The interior embodies 1970s sport-chic: Veglia Borletti dials on a black background, a three-spoke leather or wood steering wheel, “Daytona” bucket seats (optional on later versions), and a low driving position focused on the road. The cabin is minimalist yet refined, devoid of the superfluous to leave room for the essential: the sheer pleasure of driving.
The Ferrari Dino 246 GT is more than just a collector’s car: it is a design icon and a lesson in engineering. By democratizing the mid-engine architecture for the Prancing Horse brand, it paved the way for future V8 berlinettas (from the 308 to the F8 Tributo). It remains today one of the most coveted classics, famous for the unforgettable metallic soundtrack of its V6 and its timeless beauty.
