Admission Policy



1. Purpose of the Charte

This charter aims to establish criteria and procedures for admitting a vehicle into the collections of the Coligny Car Museum.

The goal is to ensure coherence and relevance of acquisitions aligned with the museum’s mission.

2. Selection Criteria

    A vehicle can be admitted into the museum if it meets the following criteria:

    2.1. Historical and Cultural Interest

    • Vehicle representative of a specific era, technical innovation, or significant event.
    • Vehicle formerly owned by a notable individual or that played a significant role in history.
    • Rare or iconic vehicle representative of a brand, model, or aesthetic movement.

    2.2. Authenticity and State of Preservation

    • Vehicle in original condition or restored according to historical standards.
    • No major modifications compromising authenticity.
    • Availability of historical and technical documentation (certificate of origin, ownership history, etc.).

    2.3. Relevance to the Museum’s Collections

    • Coherence with the existing collection and enhancement of the heritage.
    • Absence of duplication with vehicles already present in the collection.

    2.4. Material and Logistical Conditions

    • Feasibility of adequate storage and exhibition conditions.
    • Reasonable maintenance and restoration costs relative to the museum’s resources.

    3. Admission Procedure

      3.1. Proposal and Evaluation

      • Any admission proposal (donation, purchase, loan) must be submitted in writing to the museum’s acquisition committee.
      • An in-depth evaluation of the vehicle is conducted (physical inspection, historical research, cost estimation).

      3.2. Acquisition Committee Decision

      • The committee decides on acceptance or rejection based on established criteria.
      • A contract of donation, purchase, or loan is signed if admission is approved.

      3.3. Integration into the Collection

      • Registration in the museum’s official inventory.
      • Implementation of a maintenance and, if necessary, restoration program.
      • Potential for permanent or temporary exhibition depending on museum needs.

      4. Final Provisions

        • The museum reserves the right to decline a proposal if it does not meet established criteria.
        • Vehicles admitted to the museum cannot be disposed of without approval from the acquisition committee.
        • This charter may be revised according to evolving museum needs.
